Today we will talk about a person who exhibited– the best of human conduct in entire human history and who excelled in all forms of virtue,– who- gained the titles of “The truthful” and “Trustworthy” at early age.  His teachings- changed the lives of millions of people around the globe. And this person is prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

Reverence for him by Muslims is obvious, but plenty of prominent non-Muslim thinkers, philosophers and authors also have great admiration for him, and that is the topic of our discussion today.

Before we discuss what prominent Non-Muslims have said about prophet Muhammed we will see what The Quran says about Prophet Muhammed (pbuh)

Quran says that prophet Muhammad had a great moral character, he was sent as a mercy for the entire mankind and in him is the role model for humanity to emulate, so let’s see those verses here,

And indeed, you are of a great moral character. 68-4

There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allāh an excellent pattern for anyone whose hope is in Allāh and the Last Day and [who] remembers Allāh often. 33-21

And We have not sent you, [O Muḥammad], except as a mercy to the worlds. 21:107

So, these were the verses of the Quran for him.

Let us see us now, what prominent non-Muslims have said about Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), we will start with

Michael H. Hart –and his famous book “The 100”

Michael H. Hart, is a Christian American, he  is an astronomer, mathematician, chess master and scientist who, after extensive research about the most influential figures in human history, rated prophet Muhammad (pbuh) as number one in his book “The 100,”  and found him as the most influential single figure in human history writing that “He (Muhammad-pbuh) was the only man in history who was supremely successful on both the religious and secular levels.”

An Irish play writer George Bernard Shaw in his book “The Genuine Islam”  said,

“I have studied him – The wonderful man – and in my opinion far from being an anti-Christ, he must be called the Savior of Humanity.”…..I believe that if a man like him were to assume the dictatorship of the modern world he would succeed in solving its problems in a way that would bring it the much-needed peace and happiness.”

A famous British socialist Annie Besant-  in her book– “The Life and Teachings of Mohammed” said,

“It is impossible for anyone who studies the life and character of the great Prophet of Arabia, who knew how he taught and how he lived, to feel anything but reverence for the mighty Prophet.”

The famous French poet and statesmen– Alphonse De Lamartine – in his book “Historie de la Turquie” said,

If the greatness of purpose, smallness of means and astonishing results are the three criteria of human genius, who could dare compare any great man in history with Muhammad?……Philosopher, Orator, Apostle, Legislator, Conqueror of ideas, Restorer of rational beliefs…..As regards to all standards by which human greatness may be measured, we may well ask, is there any man greater than he?”

A Scottish historian, H A R Gibbs in his book “Mohammedanism,” said

“That his (Muhammad’s) reforms enhanced the status of women in general is universally admitted.”

K.S. Ramakrishna Rao, a professor at Govt College for Women, University of Mysore

In his book “Islam and Modern Age” said: “Historical records show that all the contemporaries of Mohammad both friends and foes, acknowledged the sterling qualities, the spotless honesty, the noble virtues, the absolute sincerity, and every trustworthiness of the apostle of Islam in all walks of life and every sphere of human activity.”  What a tribute!

Lastly let us see what Encyclopedia Britannica mentions,

“A mass of detail in the early sources shows that he was an honest and upright man who had gained the respect and loyalty of others who were likewise honest and upright men.”

“Muhammad is the most successful of all Prophets and religious personalities.”

Tributes by non-Muslims for prophet Muhammad (pbuh) are plenty, we brought only a few here. These are enough to give a glimpse of his illustrious and inspiring personality. No wonder Muslims believe that Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) was the greatest person who ever lived on this earth.
