Signs of Allah (SWT)
As per His wisdom, God-Allah (swt) has veiled Himself from us, but Signs of Allah appear all around us within the universe and within ourselves to ponder upon and recognize Him. This exercise of reflecting upon these signs awaken our inner faculties thus far lying dormant within us. All this in turn leads us to realize our importance as humans, as well as our position in relation to the universe. This realization directs us to recognize our Creator and our God.
The Qur’an describes many such signs and exhorts us to recognize Him through His signs.
Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the alternation of the night and the day, and the [great] ships which sail through the sea with that which benefits people, and what Allah has sent down from the heavens of rain, giving life thereby to the earth after its lifelessness and dispersing therein every [kind of] moving creature, and [His] directing of the winds and the clouds controlled between the heaven and earth are signs for a people who use reason. [2:164]
Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding. [3:190-191]
And it is He who sends down rain from the sky, and We produce thereby the growth of all things. We produce from it greenery from which We produce grains arranged in layers. And from the palm trees – of its emerging fruit are clusters hanging low. And [We produce] gardens of grapevines and olives and pomegranates, similar yet varied. Look at [each of] its fruit when it yields and [at] its ripening. Indeed in that are signs for a people who believe. [6;99]
Say, “Observe what is in the heavens and the earth.” But of no avail will be signs or warner’s to a people who do not believe. [10:101]
And how many a sign within the heavens and earth do they pass over while they, therefrom, are turning away. [12:105]
Alif, Laam, Meem, These are the verses of the Book; and what has been revealed to you from your Lord is the truth, but most of the people do not believe. 2. It is Allah who erected the heavens without pillars that you [can] see; then He established Himself above the Throne and made subject the sun and the moon, each running [its course] for a specified term. He arranges [each] matter; He details the signs that you may, of the meeting with your Lord, be certain. 3. And it is He who spread the earth and placed therein firmly set mountains and rivers; and from all of the fruits He made therein two mates; He causes the night to cover the day. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought. 4. And within the land are neighboring plots and gardens of grapevines and crops and palm trees, [growing] several from a root or otherwise, watered with one water; but We make some of them exceed others in [quality of] fruit. Indeed in that are signs for a people who reason. [13:1-4]
It is Allah who created the heavens and the earth and sent down rain from the sky and produced thereby some fruits as provision for you and subjected for you the ships to sail
through the sea by His command and subjected for you the rivers. And He subjected for you the sun and the moon, continuous [in orbit], and subjected for you the night and the day.
And He gave you from all you asked of Him.607 And if you should count the favor [i.e., blessings] of Allah, you could not enumerate them. Indeed, mankind is [generally] most unjust
and ungrateful. [14:32-34]
He created the heavens and earth in truth. High is He above what they associate with Him. He created man from a sperm-drop; then at once he is a clear adversary. And the grazing livestock He has created for you; in them is warmth and [numerous] benefits, and from them you eat. And for you in them is [the enjoyment of] beauty when you bring them in [for the evening] and when you send them out [to pasture]. And they carry your loads to a land you could not have reached except with difficulty to yourselves. Indeed, your Lord is Kind and Merciful. And [He created] the horses, mules and donkeys for you to ride and [as] adornment. And He creates that which you do not know. And upon Allah is the direction of the [right] way, and among them [i.e., the various paths] are those deviating. And if He willed, He could have guided you all. It is He who sends down rain from the sky; from it is drink and from it is foliage in which you pasture [animals]. He causes to grow for you thereby the crops, olives, palm trees, grapevines, and from all the fruits. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who give thought. And He has subjected for you the night and day and the sun and moon, and the stars are subjected by His command. Indeed in that are signs for a people who reason. And [He has subjected] whatever He multiplied for you on the earth of varying colors. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who remember. And it is He who subjected the sea for you to eat from it tender meat and to extract from it ornaments which you wear. And you see the ships plowing through it, and [He subjected it] that you may seek of His bounty; and perhaps you will be grateful. And He has cast into the earth firmly set mountains, lest it shift with you, and [made] rivers and roads, that you may be guided, And landmarks. And by the stars they are [also] guided. Then is He who creates like one who does not create? So will you not be reminded? [16:3-17]
And We have made the night and day two signs, and We erased the sign of the night and made the sign of the day visible675 that you may seek bounty from your Lord and may know the number of years and the account [of time]. And everything We have set out in detail. [17:12]
And nothing has prevented Us from sending signs [i.e., miracles] except that the former peoples denied them. And We gave Tham´d the she-camel as a visible sign, but they wronged her. And We send not the signs except as a warning. [17:59]
It is your Lord who drives the ship for you through the sea that you may seek of His bounty. Indeed, He is ever, to you, Merciful. [17:66]
Then, has it not become clear to them how many generations We destroyed before them as they walk among their dwellings? Indeed in that are signs for those of intelligence. [20:128]
That is because Allah causes the night to enter the day and causes the day to enter the night and because Allah is Hearing and Seeing. That is because Allah is the Truth, and that which they call upon other than Him is falsehood, and because Allah is the Most High, the Grand. Do you not see that Allah has sent down rain from the sky and the earth becomes green? Indeed, Allah is Subtle and Acquainted. To Him belongs what is in the heavens and what is on the earth. And indeed, Allah is the Free of need, the Praiseworthy. Do you not see that Allah has subjected to you whatever is on the earth and the ships, which run through the sea by His command? And He restrains the sky from falling upon the earth, unless by His permission. Indeed Allah, to the people, is Kind and Merciful. And He is the one who gave you And He is the one who gave you life; then He causes you to die and then will [again] give you life. Indeed, mankind is ungrateful. [22; 61-66]
Do you not see that Allah drives clouds? Then He brings them together; then He makes them into a mass, and you see the rain emerge from within it. And He sends down from the sky, mountains [of clouds] within which is hail, and He strikes with it whom He wills and averts it from whom He wills. The flash of its lightening almost takes away the eyesight. 44. Allah alternates the night and the day. Indeed in that is a lesson for those who have vision. 45. Allah has created every [living] creature from water. And of them are those that move on their bellies, and of them are those that walk on two legs, and of them are those that walk on four. Allah creates what He wills. Indeed, Allah is over all things. [24:43-45]
Did they not look at the earth – how much We have produced therein from every noble kind? 8. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. [26:7-8]
[More precisely], is He [not best] who created the heavens and the earth and sent down for you rain from the sky, causing to grow thereby gardens of joyful beauty which you could not [otherwise] have grown the trees thereof? Is there a deity with Allah?1012 [No], but they are a people who ascribe equals [to Him]. Is He [not best] who made the earth a stable ground and placed within it rivers and made for it firmly set mountains and placed between the two seas a barrier? Is there a deity with Allah? [No], but most of them do not know. Is He [not best] who responds to the desperate one when he calls upon Him and removes evil and makes you inheritors of the earth? Is there a deity with Allah? Little do you remember. Is He [not best] who guides you through the darknesses of the land and sea and who sends the winds as good tidings before His mercy? Is there a deity with Allah? High is Allah above whatever they associate with Him. Is He [not best] who begins creation and then repeats it and who provides for you from the heaven and earth? Is there a deity with Allah? Say, “Produce your roof, if you should be truthful.” [27:60-64]
Say, “Have you considered:1046 if Allah should make for you the night continuous until the Day of Resurrection, what deity other than Allah could bring you light? Then will you not hear?” 72. Say, “Have you considered: if Allah should make for you the day continuous until the Day of Resurrection, what deity other than Allah could bring you a night in which you may rest? Then will you not see?” [28:72-73]
