Names and attributes of the Quran Part 3

In two of the earlier posts we have discussed few names or attributes of the Quran,

Allah the God Almighty has mentioned multiple names and attributes for the Quran. This is a unique feature of the Quran, it is not usual to find a book describing itself with so many different titles. These names or titles point out qualities and functions of The Quran, at the same time they also indicate the importance and greatness of the Quran.  Today we will discuss some more names and one or two verses from the Quran mentioning that name.

Qaiyyam –Straight, No confusion, No Distortion,

[All] praise is [due] to Allah, who has sent down upon His Servant the Book and has not made therein any deviance. [He has made it] straight………18:1-2

Quran is clear, straight and free of distortion. There is nothing in the Quran that may be described as evasive or confusing. It clearly guides to the straight path.

Bushra – Glad Tidings

These are the verses of the Quran and a clear Book, As guidance and glad tidings for the believers. 27:1-2

Qur’ān provides radiance of guidance to believing hearts, it also gives them glad tidings, about the happiness, in this life and for the life after death.

Basaair –Clear Indications, Insight, Proof (from the heart).

This [Quran] is enlightenment for mankind and guidance and mercy for people who are certain [in faith]. 45:20

Quran does not insist on blind faith. Quran encourages reasoning and rational thinking. To a person, who is thinking with open mind, Quran provides information and arguments which generate insight about our life, God and hereafter.

Fasl – Conclusive

Indeed, the Quran is a decisive statement. 86:13

Quran is a decisive statement made on some purpose and it is not something that is created for amusement.  Quran is the true, conclusive and final word, it puts an end to all argument, doubts and uncertainties.

Muhaimin: Guardian / Trustworthy   /Watcher (over previous scriptures)

And We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], the Book in truth, confirming that which preceded it of the Scripture and as a guardian over it. 5:48

Quran is described as guardian of earlier scriptures because, the summary of true teachings of earlier scriptures are surviving through Quran. Quran testifies that earlier scriptures were revealed to Prophets Moses, David and Jesus (Peace be upon them all).

 Rooh: Soul, Spirit

And thus, We have revealed to you an inspiration of Our command.  You did not know what is the Book or [what is] faith. 42:52

Quran is mentioned as spirit – inspiration from commands of Allah the God Almighty. Quran is referred as spirit here because it brings our soul back to life of belief and enlightenment from death of ignorance and non-belief.

 Habla: Rope, Cord

And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided. 3:103

The Holy Quran is referred to as the cord of Allah. As per a hadith (saying) of prophet Muhammed (PBUH),  “The Book of Allah is the rope of Allah, extended from heavens to the earth”.

Now we will discuss three different titles of the Quran which are described together in four small verses.

Mukkarram –Honored 80:11-14

The Quran is honored and the pages in which the Quran is written, are also honored.

Marfua –Exalted 80:11-14
